BitBull was founded in 1999 by James Closs, former Creative Director of digital marketing agency Syzygy. During James' time at Syzygy he played a significant role in growing the company from a team of three to a successful International business with over eighty staff, winning several awards in the process (including the Yell award for best web design agency) and helping to secure high-profile clients such as Disney, Cartoon-Network, Boots, Barclays and BP.

BitBull's aim was to create transmedia entertainment experiences supported by advertising and corporate sponsorship. A software platform NEAT (Networked Entertainment Applications Toolkit) was built to facilitate this and our first product, the 'social dating' site Wild5, launched in 2000. Wild5 was very well received, generating interest from major publishers and broadcasters (including EMAP and Channel 4) and six-figure licensing deals for the NEAT platform with Digital Bridges (now iPlay) and the now defunct Atomic Interactive.

...and now.
As investors and media companies began to shy away from ad-supported web products in the early 00s, BitBull shifted focus to the emerging mobile space. With the backing of a government SMART award NEAT was converted to MEAT (Mobile Entertainment Applications Toolkit) and used to produce a series of games for Java-enabled feature phones to be sold on operator portals.

Fast-forward to today and BitBull are probably the UK's longest-running independent mobile app developer. Well-versed in dealing with multi-platform issues we regularly publish titles that run on over 1,500 handsets and multiple operating systems. Our apps are served on all the major International operator portals, have regularly featured in the ELSPA charts, and have won several Pocket-Gamer awards. Our original puzzle game 'Puzzled Zombies' was nominated for Pocket-Gamer's 'Game Of The Year' award in 2013 up against competition from the like of Electronic Arts and Namco.

In addition to our self-published content we have consulted on large multiplayer gaming and social media projects for Orange and Nokia, built a large part of The Sims 2 Mobile for Electronic Arts, helped create interactive storybooks for eWow Books and developed every game released by Maturus Mobile. BitBull acquired the rights to all Maturus Mobile content as of 01.01.2013.
